2009-10 Executive Board Application

In 300 words or less, please describe why SPJ is important: SPJ is the heart and soul of the university’s journalism department. As a group, it keeps j-students connected and allows them to explore different areas of journalism without having to actually take classes in the subject. You can connect with media professionals and get insights about the state of the industry today. But most importantly, it offers students opportunities to lead their peers towards success, creating opportunity for teamwork and advancement. With SPJ, the sky’s the limit!

In 300 words or less, please tell us why you’re applying for your chosen position and what you will bring to e-board: I’m applying to be the SPJ President because I have two years experience having led the organization in the past. I’ve attended the Scripps Leadership Institute at SPJ Headquarters, and I have a great working relationship with area professionals and the Cincy SPJ Pro chapter. But more importantly, I am dedicated to bringing quality programming to the organization, to increasing student involvement and to make UCSPJ a safe haven for learning, venting, exploring, and growth.
